Yep.
(See especially the third paragraph from the bottom, the one that begins, "The Old Grey Lady explains why...")

Nope.
I completely disagree with the concept of preventative detention. I have for the last six years during which it has been going on. But it is simply a lie to claim that anything Obama has proposed would apply to US citizens. It is akin to claiming that, because the US Army has occupied Iraq, they're going to occupy Cleveland next.
I also think it's crazy to focus on the difference between what the writer expected from Obama and what he's delivered rather than what Obama has done compared to what his predecessor has done or what his political opponent would have done. I too am disappointed in Obama's performance in several areas but I am under no illusions that McCain would have done better or even as well in any of the areas which have me upset. And I don't think Biden would be an improvement if, by some bizarre twist, Obama took the author's advice. Once again, the perfect becomes the enemy of the not quite as horrible.
I'll look at it again. McCain/Palin would have been the equivalent of setting a course for the sun -- make all available speed! -- but I still find it awfully hard to be impressed by Obama, and he clearly made promises that he doesn't plan to even pretend to keep. Less shitty than a McCain presidency is about as low a standard as anyone could ever be expected to meet.
